S17, or September 17th, is rapidly approaching!
For those of you who might not know, last year on this day, Occupiers gathered for the first time in New York City to protest Wall St. Since then, Occupations have spread across the 50 states and erupted globally. While the year has had its ups and downs, its no doubt been revolutionary!
Occupy Maine, a group consisting of at least 10 active Occupations in the state, has planned to be in solidarity with Occupy Wall St. on this day! While it started in New York, Mainers have brought attention to problems and solutions in their local communities! Many Mainers are hoping to join up with OWS and thousands of others to have their voices heard by Wall St on S17.
So let's get some Maine voices down there! To do this, we're going to need to work together.
The trip to the financial district in NYC is about 300 miles each way from Portland, Maine. We are hoping to acquire a bus to get everyone who wants to go from Aroostook County, Mount Desert Island, Waldo County, Bangor, Augusta, Brunswick, Portland, Kennebunk, and many other locations around the state.
This fund is mostly intended for transportation costs, but there are many other costs to be considered! There is housing, food, signs and banners that should be made, possible bail money in case of arrest, AND some funds for the solidarity actions beginning to be planned in local Maine cities on that day.
