UPDATE (7/15): WePay is having some technical difficulties with several of the donations that were $1000 or more. This has caused the total to reflect the incorrect amount. We want to assure all the donors that the donations were received (in some cases by check), and despite what the thermometer now says, the entire $5000 (as donated by 37 people) was thrown off a building. We have contacted WePay and asked them to please resolve this issue but have been underwhelmed by their response. We will most likely use another site in the future.
We're doing it again! But we need your help! To help us reach our goal of $5000 we've setup this WePay page for you to donate a few spare dollars and be a part of it making it happen.
It's time we declared independence from Citizens United. The United States Supreme Court decision in Citizens United established money as speech, reaffirmed that corporations are people, and paved the way for a head-long rush towards plutocracy.
We think this is wrong and we hope you agree. To protest this truly spectacular decision and raise awareness of the issue, we want to do something equally spectacular this July 4th.
Money is the new tea. We intend to print this message: "Money as speech silences us all. End Citizens United" on all the donated money before throwing it off a building somewhere in Seattle on the 4th of July. Here's an image of what each bill will look like: http://bit.ly/LrwM5r
As much installation art as protest, it sends a powerful message and we hope you'll contribute to making it a reality. All donations will go directly towards being thrown off a building! And are tax deductible! What more could you ask for?
In addition to drawing attention to the issue ironically: a statement about money as speech by using money as speech; the money will naturally go back into general circulation. As it passes from hand to hand, from one person to the next, it will continue to spread its message.
What the heck is a Money Drop and why would I donate any money to it? Check out this video of the very successful Valentine's Day money drop (http://miccheckwallst.org/valentines-day-money-drop-2-14-12/) and see for yourself: http://on.fb.me/KHiH70
Make a statement. Take a stand. Be a part of history.
