The OWS Street Medic Team has been an important part of OWS from day one providing care & support for the wellness of the OWS community. We are part of a network and history of street medicine that dates back to the civil rights movement and includes street medics all over the world. The need for street medics is of utmost priority especially in these times of police brutality & the resulting trauma.
The OWS Medics are continuing our trainings and skill shares working to educate and empower people in the streets to share mutual aid.
In the past six months, we have had 100's of participants in trainings, ranging from wilderness 1st Aid and CPR to herbalism and disaster preparedness. In the lead up to May 1st, we will continue to offer 6 hour affinity group medic trainings and 20 hour street medic trainings.
We are also purchasing basic first aid supplies to restock our medical kits for all the protestors who we expect to come out for the May First General Strike in New York. Actions are planned from 8am until the end of the night, so we will be running in shifts and trying to rest and restock for possible 24 hours of work in the streets.
Thanks for helping us to help our community remain strong and healthy.
