My mom and I run a small out of home animal rescue for mainly small pets and exotics... Many of the animals we take in are disabled, hurt, or dying.. (for example a sun conure that hates everyone, a wild rabbit that was almost eaten by a dog, a cat that has seizures, and recently the disabled ferret we had passed on, as well as our beloved blind pomeranian who often had seizures that also passed on.)
We receive no government aid or anything like it to help us with the animals.. We feed them and care for them out of our own pocket.. Which with vet expenses and the amount of food some of them can eat it's often very taxing... We live on a budget each week and try to feed all the animals and ourselves (my mother, myself and my stepfather) of $140 a week. A lot of the time most of that money goes to the animals food and medicine.
My mom is also partially disabled, she has 4 plates and 8 screws in her back. We also both have Crohn's Disease that we inherited from the family genes.. We receive no extra help for this in any way.. But I spend my days taking care of her and helping in any way I can (i.e. I wake up & keep her company, help her get up and walk on bad days, or do everything I can on the really bad days she can't walk.. I clean, I help with all the animals. & of course cooking).. This however makes a day job impossible.. I often say what I do daily is my unpaid day job...
Even a Dollar can help!
We appreciate any help that can be given, in any amount.. Especially during the holiday times of year.. It's often even harder on us then.
Also, you can buy yummy canned goodies made by me with the help of my mom at www.jkkcookingcanning.com
