Fredrick Demetrius Martin Jr. (Freddie Mac as he was affectionately known by his friends) was born July 1, 1983 in Gardena, CA, to Ilene Howard and Fredrick Martin Sr. Fred was a happy and healthy child who grew up playing sports and enjoying family and friends. He graduated from Parent Middle School in 1997 and went off to Westchester High School, where he led his FroshSoph football team to an undefeated season playing the quarterback position. He continued playing football and doing well in the classroom, eventually graduating from Westchester High School in 2001.
In 2003 Fred accomplished his greatest feat, when he and his high school sweetheart, Ebony Delton, gave birth to their son, Fredrick Demetrius Martin III, (Tre). Tre immediately became the joy of Fred's life and Fred dedicated himself to Tre like nothing in his life before. Tre was Fred's main motivation for earning his college degree in Sociology from Texas Southern University in December 2006.
Upon graduation, Fred returned to Inglewood to be close to his family and friends, but mainly Tre. He started working for Kaiser and being actively involved in the rearing of Tre. Though Ebony and Fred eventually decided to part ways, they always worked together to assure Tre had everything he needed.
In 2011, Fred married Amanda Grant and they conceived a child later that year. In the fall of 2011 Fred and Amanda moved to a home in Inglewood next to his beloved grandmother Darley Tankey.
On the evening of April 3, 2012, Fred was with Tre, and one of his best friends and the God father of his son, Joey Hickman, cleaning out his garage. While they were doing this 2 unknown assailants ran into the garage and opened fire. Fred dove to cover Tre and was hit twice. He made it to the hospital but unfortunately didn't survive surgery. Fred is survived by his son Tre, Tre's mother Ebony, wife Amanda and their unborn child, mother Ilene, father Fred, sisters Micharri Pratts, Star Martin, Taschae Martin, brother Tehadre Martin, great grandmother Janie Embers, Grandmother Darley and Grandmother Faye, as well as a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
As you can imagine, this unexpected tragedy has hit the family extremely hard. Right now your support will be greatly appreciated by the family. It will also show the family, most importantly Fred's children, just how important he was to our community.
These donations will be split between the children evenly. Any amount is sufficient!
