This fund supports the Data Committee of Occupy DC, a General Assembly-approved committee made up of volunteer web developers, data scientists, researchers, and of course, activists. We hope to strengthen the initiatives of the various entities within Occupy DC and the national Occupy movement through data gathering, analysis, and visualization using open-source software.
Donations will be used to cover the operating expenses of the Occupy Data website, which will serve as a clearinghouse for raw data sources, visualizations, tutorials, and visualization tools. This fund is currently the group's only source of income. Funds may also be used for the court filing fees associated with filing Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.
A key principle of the Data Committee is transparency, not only as a practice we would like to see in government and business alike, but also as one by which we conduct our own research and data work, such as those you can see here: tiles.mapbox.com/occupy. We are on github: github.com/occupydata; we have our data in a public repository: thedatahub.org/group/occupy; and we plan to be transparent in our use of the donated funds, keeping donors updated through WePay and publicly releasing spending data.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
