UPDATE: Thurs Nov 17 2:00PM EST-
The Other 99 has been a primary source of breaking news at the Occupy Wall St movement. Our coverage is 100% funded by small donations and we receive no money or equipment from the OWS organizers. We are independent, and strive to be the most reliable and compelling source of news.
Our original goal was a simple one: provide a primary source of information at Zuccotti Park. But our team emerged as a new media platform of citizen journalism fueled by small donors. We continue to report from the front lines during the ongoing media blackout and provide an unfiltered lens of breaking developments.
The Media Fund has helped us to obtain equipment, food, transportation/housing and to support our live broadcast on Ustream (ustream.tv/theother99). We have been featured in Time Magazine, ABC News, CBS, German ARD, Fuji TV, France24 and BBC. Our own Ustream coverage and reporting has been seen by 300,000+ unique viewers.
These are the numbers that keep us motivated to maintain our website, our live broadcast on Ustream, and most of all expand to new media platforms. A mobile and tablet app and an enhanced new website are forthcoming! We are committed to ensure TheOther99 remains a reliable, in-depth source of news. Thanks you for your donation, whatever the amount. Our original reporting will never be behind a paywall. Please continue to share our links with your friends and family. Stay with us..

UPDATE: FRi Oct 28 12:00 PM EST-
BREAKING NEWS: NYPD and FDNY confiscate at least six generators and all fuel from Zuccotti Park. TheOther99 can confirm at least one 5000W biofuel generator was taken, as well. Current NYC temperatures hover under 40 F and snow is forecast this weekend.
Our team was on the ground LIVE as the generators were placed on trucks and driven away. the NYPD reportedly gave receipts to some to pickup at a later date. The cause was for "safety", however it must be mentioned that generators have been on site since the earliest days.
Stay with us for the latest developments, including comment from city officials on the use of biofuels. We are also working on confirming if any alternative generators would be allowed at Zuccotti Park by the FDNY.

UPDATE: Wed Oct 26 3:30 PM EST-
We're following a breaking story now.. We were the first to bring you images contradicting the Oakland Police Department's comments explicitly denying the use of "rubber bullets" along with the actual text of their release. There are now multiple outlets sharing photos of protesters with circular wounds and bleeding, including an Iraq Vet wearing a "Veterans for Peace" shirt now identified as Scott Olsen.
Highland Hospital has confirmed Olsen is in "critical" condition. A neurosurgeon will decide if surgery is needed later this evening.
Please stay with us, we'll bring you the latest developments as we confirm them. We are also awaiting replies to our press inquiries to other agencies involved and whether any law enforcement agency will confirm the use of rubber bullets.
Thanks for your continued support. We are 100% funded by small donors like you.

UPDATE: Sun Oct 16 9:00 AM EST-
Yesterday saw protests in 900 cities globally.. What started as a movement from a few dozen remaining young people willing to sleep in a wet, soggy Zuccotti park has now reached a critical mass. Today is Day 30 of the peaceful occupation in New York.
The NYPD is confirming at least 74 arrests yesterday, including 20 who were arrested while some tried to close their accounts at Citibank in downtown Manhattan. Also included in this number were 40+ arrested in Times Square, most near 46th St. Crowd estimates ranged from 5,000 to 15,000.
Virtually all the protests remained peaceful all around the world, though there were reports of riots in Rome including overturned cars and at least one fire.
Stay with us as we continue to tell this still unfolding story from the front lines in New York. Our team was live on the scene overnight in Washington Square Park and at one point was the only live video being sent around the world. Please follow us here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/we-are-the-other-99

Thank you all for your support. We've been reporting from lower Manhattan for the past 28 days. We're moving into the next phase of our independent media coverage here, so expect some exciting updates soon.
Today witnessed 15+ arrests, many of them violent, including one of a National Lawyers Guild observer, who was reportedly arrested for kicking the scooter that ran him over, hospitalizing him. We are seeing a tremendous groundswell of support for the Occupiers, including some support coming from the 1% itself. We will continue to bring you an independent media voice from Lower Manhattan and elsewhere, but be advised: this will not be televised.
UPDATE: Thurs 7:00 PM EST-
In 12 hours, the peaceful protesters at Zuccotti Park will be forcible removed by police and private security for cleaning and maintenance. This has been widely reported as a thinly veiled excuse to end the occupation.
Following the still undetermined length of time to clean and check maintenance of the park, the protesters have been told they will be allowed to return to Zuccotti Park, but only if they follow posted rules by Brookfield Properties. [TheOther99 was present when a "new" set of rules was erected at the park, after more than a week of occupation].
From these posted rules, future activities that will be prohibited: "Lying down on the ground, or lying down on benches, sitting areas or walkways which unreasonably interferes with the use of benches, sitting areas or walkways by others."
"The placement of tarps or sleeping bags or other covering on the property."
"Storage or placement of personal property on the ground, benches, sitting areas or walkways which unreasonably interferes with the use of such areas by others."
The facts on the ground are moving quickly. Stay with us for LIVE coverage tomorrow morning as this story still unfolds. As always, thanks for the generosity you've shown us so far. We would not be able to support our team and their efforts without the donors across the country, and even the world, who have fueled our coverage.
Be advised, this will not be televised..

Tonight @TheOther99 reached 5,000+ followers! We are very grateful for your continued support. Stay with us for breaking developments, including Friday's planned "clearing" of Zuccotti Park by Brookfield Properties for cleaning.
Wall St Journal: http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011/10/12/occupy-wall-street-gets-a-visit-from-mayor-bloomberg/
Deputy Mayor Holloway: “The cleaning will be done in stages and the protesters will be able to return to the areas that have been cleaned, provided they abide by the rules that Brookfield has established for the park.”
Brookfield hastily posted a set of "rules" after the first week including banning sleeping bags and tarps from park grounds. It is unclear how these rules are to be enforced Friday and beyond. Stay with us for breaking developments from the front lines. But be advised, this will not be televised..
UPDATE: Tues Oct 11 7:30 PM EST-

UPDATE: Sat Oct 8 11:30 AM EST-
Stay on top of this still unfolding story as we cover all the weekend's events, including this afternoon's march to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. We will also be posting our videos from Washington DC from the previous two days soon.
We are entering another phase in our development, and are interviewing additional team members into our existing group. We will continue to tell this story from the front lines and wherever it may lead. One important note: we are not encumbered by the same conflicts of interest the corporate media must contend with. You can witness this true story emerge from primary sources, and in real-time.
No one on staff has been detained, however we have been on the ground to cover each mass arrest. There was one incident on Wednesday night of a plain clothes police officer tackling our cameraman, but there was no major injury and he escaped arrest. We were the original source of the 9/24 YouTube video showing young women penned in the street and maced, but were not arrested ourselves.
Our only source of funding is through small donors like you. We ask for donations of $9.17 [Sept 17] to continue to fuel this live reporting. Thank you so much for the generosity you've shown us, whatever the amount donated. Please stay with us as we report what happens on the front lines. But be advised, this will not be televised...
UPDATE: Thurs Oct 6 12:30 AM EST-
After a day which saw 10,000+ march in the streets of Lower Manhattan, a white-shirted NYPD officer was caught on camera swinging a baton at peaceful protesters this evening. Another report of pepper spray or mace being used on a reporter was aired by FOX5 in New York.
The Other 99 has been reporting this story since DAY ONE of the media blackout and will continue to cover developments from the front lines. Tomorrow we will also have LIVE coverage from Washington DC and New York. Please stay with us. But be advised, this will not be televised...

The DailyKos Community was instrumental in this operation getting off the ground. Thanks for everything you do, Kossacks!!
UPDATE: Sat Oct 1 9:00 AM EST-
Day Fourteen [Friday] saw a big boost in numbers. The mild, sunny weather seemed to bring out stronger crowds. And for the first time multiple young families were seen in the park mingling or painting handmade signs.
An unattributed rumor of an afternoon Radiohead concert saw thousands descend on Zuccotti Park. It was debunked quickly, but many who came still hoped they would see a show.
100+ members of the Transit Workers Union were seen for the first time at the park holding signs. And news of their unanimous vote overnight to support #OccupyWallStreet means 38,000 members are now planning a march in solidarity on Oct. 5. Additional labor groups are likely to now join; more news as it unfolds.
2,000+ protestors marched on One Police Plaza, near City Hall. And for an hour chanted the messages from speakers in waves of 2 or 3 repeats, so the entire crowd could hear the message. This was the largest assembled group since Day One. It remained peaceful and there were no reported arrests. An additional march was announced for tomorrow [SAT 10/1] at 3PM. Stay with us, as we'll cover this LIVE from the front lines...
UPDATE: Wed Sept 28 6:00 PM EST-
Today is Day Twelve of the peaceful occupation of Zuccotti Park. The Other 99 continues to provide a primary source of information on non-traditional platforms.
FB: We Are The Other 99
Our original goal was a simple one: raise funds for this movement. We have now shifted into a mode of a new form of citizen journalism, just emerging from social media outlets. We continue to report from the front lines during the ongoing Media Blackout. And we continue to provide confirmed, primary source reporting of facts on the ground, to give our followers an unfiltered lens of breaking developments in the field.
A small team is being assembled to move this story to Washington DC on October 6th and wherever this story takes us beyond. We are also developing an independent platform to bring you the stories going unreported, wherever they may lead. Our funding, from small donors all over America and the globe, will be used for housing, food and transportation. It will be intelligently invested in hardware and in funding other primary sources who can advance the Truth, unvarnished and free of corporate media spin.
We continue to be humbled by the overwhelming support received so far. We think our next goal of $100,000 is a lofty one; but our dispatches continue to be fueled by ordinary citizens. We have no corporate sponsorship and we follow the story wherever it leads, no matter the implications for traditional media outlets.
We hope you stay with us in this fight. We will not be deterred by the obstacles corporate media has erected. But be advised, this will not be televised...
UPDATE: Sun Sept 25 10:00 PM EST-
Our Goal of $10,000 by 12PM tomorrow for our Conversation With the Top 1% has been BLOWN away! Our donations are coming in globally. And the majority remain small donations. We remain awed by this response.
Our new goal? We're adding another Zero. From 2007 - 2009, Wall St profits soared 700%+ while Americans home equity decreased by 35%. Wall St was able to "add zeroes" to their bottom lines. So we're adding another one of our own.
Our new goal? $100,000 by October 6, when we take this movement to Washington DC. We look forward to seeing you there.
We will continue to report this story from the front lines. But be advised, this will not be televised...
