My name is Gustavo Jauregui and I am a senior at Skyline High School in Oakland, Ca. I have recently been accepted as a freshman applicant at the University of California, Berkeley and I will be the first one in my entire family to attend a university or college. Being that I come from a low resourced, overpopulated school and my family migrated here when I was 4, I don’t feel that I was adequately prepared for the academic challenges that Berkeley will expose me to. I wish to attend Summer Bridge, a 6-week transitory program geared to help low-income, first-generation college students get used to the rigorous academic environment, how to navigate the university, and build social networks and friendships.
I want to attend Summer Bridge since I believe it will help me prepare to be a successful student at Cal- I plan on majoring in the life sciences, since I plan on becoming a doctor.
I am asking for your help, since due to my family’s situation, I am ineligible to receive financial aid we cannot cover the cost of the program; I am one of 5 children. I have applied for private scholarships that will help me cover the registration and tuition costs, but I need assistance with housing and supplies; this is crucial in order for me to develop the support system that I would need.
Any donation amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
