About 4 years ago, my family and I encountered Chris G. She is a single mom in her late thirties. Not so fascinating, except that Chris has multiple sclerosis is in a wheelchair and is fed via a tube. She has numerous surgeries every year--Chris lives in a small group home in Wisconsin.
How did I meet her? Chris was living in her own home, and had a small dog Sammy. Because she was wheelchair bound, she could not care for Sam. Her son was a teen and was not able to commit to caring for Sam. My family and I took Sammy through a dog rescue organization and have adored him ever since. The day we adopted Sammy was painful for Chris and her son, but they knew it was the best for him. From time to time we take Sammy to visit Chris, whose health continues to deteriorate.
On our last visit Chris had just returned from a 13 day hosiptal stay (two surgeries and one blood transfusion). She told me that she is not able to connect with the outside world because her old computer was damaged in the hospital.
My idea is to help Chris stay connected to the outside world (specifially, her son and her father) by equipping her with an iPad2. This way she can Skype and see her family with whom she has been disconnected. I'm seeding this fund with my own money and looking to see if anyone can help. We are looking to purchase a used iPad2 and case. Any amount is appreciated.
