My best friend, S--, and her husband, B--, have fallen on really hard times. They have three kids of their own, but are in the process of adopting two more. Brandon and Bradley are 7 and 6. They lost their mom this year to a rare form of leukemia. She was 24.
Their mom was also severely bipolar. She made pretty bad choices when it came to men. The boys experienced severe abuse for a number of years as a result. They are currently in therapy, which is expensive.
I spoke with S-- on the phone tonight. She called to soothe me, because I am grieving over having to put my cat to sleep. Two hours into the conversation, she told me that they are thinking about filing bankruptcy. The adoption fees are high, they have had to pay the state a thousand dollars to do a home study to approve them as foster parents for the boys. In addition, S-- has been basically supporting her father financially for several years. He lives with them, most of the time. 5 children and 3 adults in one 4 bedroom house. They are to the point where they have considered selling their house, but in the current market, it's just not a good decision.
In addition to these expenses, they had some damage to their roof due to massive storms last year. The insurance company sent them a check, directly, in November. They could not get work done on the roof until the weather was above 30 degrees for at least a week straight. So, they ended up using a lot of that check, for groceries and therapy costs for the boys.
So I made a Facebook group. Chris & I are personally going to give any extra money we have to them. I made this group to beg others to give anything they can spare. Chris said, a couple of weeks ago, "When I think of the best person I can be, I think of S---. She is the only TRULY GOOD person I know. She is genuine, honest, and has a heart of gold." I cannot express it better. The only thing I can add is that S-- is like a sister to me. She would give you the shirt off her back, and go naked if you needed it--that's just the kind of person she is.
So, if you can spare a few dollars, I set up this WePay account in their name. Any funds put into this account will be mailed directly to them, from WePay. Thank you SO much!
