This summer five Westlake High School students, Marshall Brock, Christopher Bybee, Christine Hanna, Maddy Hines, and Cathlyn Jones, will be traveling to Peru. We will be exploring the vast beauty of Peru, but more importantly, we will be serving the Peruvian people, particularly the children.
We will be working in the village of Huayronccollaccpampa (nope, no typo), who lost most everything in a 2010 flood. As we travel to this village, our goal is to build and provide these children with a playground. We’ll be putting together a swing set and monkey bars, as well as building a simple structure for the kids to play on. There’s the possibility of adding more elements as the budget allows. We would also love to bring the kids new soccer balls, though that is not included in our goal. That being said, we would love to surpass the goal and have the opportunity to provide the kids with them.
We all have been so very blessed with the amount of objects and opportunities we have been provided with, and feel that the least we can do is spend a week building a playground for these kids.
