UPDATE: Between online donations and pledged checks, we have raised enough for our first sample! At this point we would like to take on a larger, statewide brine-testing project. Additional donations to the brine-testing fund will enable us to pursue this goal. Check www.ohiofracktion.com for updates.
Ohio Fracktion is trying to raise funds to test the brine, or "produced" fracking wastewater that is currently being pumped into 170 plus injection wells in Ohio every day. So far the ODNR, Ohio EPA, and Ohio Department of Health have refused to test this brine. This has left many residents in the areas surrounding these wells in a state of confusion and fear about what is being trucked in and deposited in their communities. The sample that we collect will be tested for radiation, which is important as the only test data we have for brine water, collected by the West Virginia DEP in 2009, was found to contain radium and strontium. Please help us establish once and for all the toxicity of this wastewater! If you would prefer to donate by check or cash please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
