Greece has seen severe austerity measures since 2008, to the extent that entire hospitals have been closed, youth unemployment is 48%, suicide rates have increased 40% and an estimated 400,000 Athenians visit soup kitchens daily. In response to this austerity, massive political mobilisations by the people have taken place, including the Movement of the Squares (precursor to the Occupy movement).
Sarah and Sofia, both Georgia State students, will be embarking on a two week long trip to Greece. The goal? Journalism in a country experiencing economic and political crisis. Both will be attempting to learn as much as possible about the country and produce a first-hand account of the situation.
The only problem is that, after the plane tickets, they are pretty much broke. This WePay is meant to fundraise for their living expenses in the two weeks they are in Greece. The funds will cover basic necessities (that is, it wont be spent on a shopping spree).
