Dear Member of the 99%,
On March 1st, over a hundred students, teachers, and community activists will begin a long march on foot starting in Berkeley and culminating in our arrival at the state capitol in Sacramento on March 5th. There, we will join thousands of other students, and together, we will make our voices and visions for public education heard. We are participating in this event, “The 99 Mile March for Public Education and Social Justice,” in order to compel our state to shift its priorities away from decimating budgets for and privatizing pre-K-12 schools, community colleges, and state universities toward fully funding these public institutions.
However, we can’t get to Sacramento without your help! In order for this inspiring march to happen, we need to raise funds for food, camping supplies, and basic first aid materials—items that will cost approximately $100 per marcher. As a movement built upon community solidarity and grassroots support, we are asking that you help us by donating whatever you can to this important cause.
