Can you help NC activists secure a convergence space for multiple groups and events pre and during the DNC in Charlotte NC?
In late August and early September Charlotte will become a major national political and media center. Due to its major corporate offices, especially Bank of America and Duke Energy, Charlotte has become nationally known as Wall Street South.
During the short span of several weeks we need a hub for planned anti-corporate, anti- foreclosure, environmental, student and social justice actions.
Thousands of people are expected and we are making plans to meet many of their needs. This is essential if we are to project a clear message. But we need your help!!
The most urgent need is for a simple, well organized convergence space anchored by serious groups for this national mobilization. We need a location where people can get schedules, plans, housing, put together signs and displays.
We have a great location in mind - at Area 15 - the refurbished warehouse where many non-profits and NGOs, community arts groups, environmental activists, a bike co-op, along with a free internet space, a quiet room and a Free Store all currently have office space. What is most exciting is that there will be a small health food store run by Barrybrook Farms in the projected convergence space. They will sell healthy snacks, sandwiches, veggies, juices and soups at modest prices. The All Nations Coffee Shop is right next door to the space. We plan to have set staffing hours and close the convergence space each night by 11pm.
